Founder’s Note
Hi, I’m Teresa! One thing you should know about me, I’ve always valued creative self-expression and individuality. To the likes of “location, location, location” for real estate, “accessorize, accessorize, accessorize” is the key to individual style and showcasing your identity. Bluntly, I think of jewelry as the upscale baseball cap. You wear a cap with your college on it because it’s part of your identity. And maybe someone in passing spots it, strikes up a convo, and suddenly you’re bonding. Accessories work the same way. I’ve struck up more than a few convos because of my jewelry, while I’m working on OSO, in coffee shops, co working spaces, equinox (you soho eqx members sure are chatty). In the heads down bubble we all live in, jewelry is one of the easiest and chicest ways to create a real connection.
But I found myself becoming more of a jewelry window shopper than a jewelry shopper these days. Great for my finances, not so great for my creative expression. It comes down to a few things:
First, I only buy good quality jewelry. I don’t see the point in spending $70 on a gold-plated piece with CZ that lasts less than a year, when I could spend more on real metal and a real stone. As they say, buy it nice or buy it twice (probably more, let’s be realistic).
Which leads to reason two. The designs I’d find at a reasonable price-quality point were just...boring. The likes of Mejuri, Dorsey, Vrai do have a place in the market, because I do believe you need some basic pieces to build up your stack. But beyond that, do I really have to pay an arm and a leg for a unique piece of jewelry that’s made of quality materials and genuine craftsmanship?
Leading into my third point: Real metal and gems have become unattainable. Well… I guess anything’s attainable for a price. Sure, distrust of the US government hasn’t helped with gold prices, but even before that. Growing up with quality and value driven purchase decisions baked into my DNA (hi, Chinese roots), I started paying closer attention to how the jewelry industry actually works. The markup is beyond your, and my, belief. But as lab grown technology has developed (more thoughts on the tech advancements later), quality diamonds and precious stones are no longer priced only for once (or twice for some of you) -in-a-lifetime engagements. The truth is real metal and gems are attainable and shouldn’t be hidden behind an impossibly tall paywall.
My answer to that is Off Script Objects. Pieces that carry a sense of possibility, and reveal your rare, radiant self, that I, for the above 3 reasons, would buy in a heartbeat. Our pieces are an extension of yourself, that speak your personality for you while you’re sitting alone, typing away at a coffee shop (take a guess what I’m doing right now??).
OSO draws from vintage forms, is centered on precious gems and diamonds, and each piece is meticulously finished by hand, all the while allowing you to keep your arms and your legs (you’ll need those to show off your OSO pieces :)
xx
