A Lesson on Solid Gold

Gold jewelry is never 100% pure gold. Pure gold (24kt) is too soft to hold a stone or survive daily wear, so it's combined with other metals for strength. The karat number tells you how much of that alloy is actually gold.

10kt: 41.7% gold. The most durable and most affordable option. The higher ratio of alloy metals makes it noticeably harder and more scratch-resistant, which makes it a good pick for pieces that get worn daily and take a beating The tradeoff is a slightly less rich color, which some of our team actually prefer!

14kt: 58.3% gold. The sweet spot, and the most popular karat in fine jewelry for a reason: it balances durability with a warmer, richer color, and it holds up well to everyday wear without being fragile. If you're not sure which to pick, this is the safe, versatile default.

Why is white gold more expensive?

White gold isn't a naturally occurring color. It starts as yellow gold, and we alloy it with white metals (like palladium) to shift the tone, then finish with a rhodium plating to get that bright, reflective white look. Rhodium is one of the rarest and most expensive precious metals in the world (rarer than gold or platinum!) so that plating step adds to the cost.

The OSO Standard

Every stone is hand-selected. We don't buy diamonds sight unseen. Each one is chosen by hand for cut, brilliance, and the way it catches light.

Every stone is top quality, no exceptions. Every diamond we use is D-F color, VS1 clarity or better. That's near-colorless to colorless, with inclusions invisible to the naked eye. We don't carry a "budget" tier — if it doesn't meet the standard, it doesn't make it into a piece.

Every piece is hand finished. Each piece is finished, polished, and inspected individually by hand before it reaches you.

Care

Your pieces are made to be worn, but a little care goes a long way in keeping them sparkling :)

On diamonds and gemstones: lab-grown stones are chemically, physically, and optically identical to mined diamonds. They won't scratch or dull with everyday wear, so most of what follows is really about protecting the gold setting around them.

On and off last. Put jewelry on after perfume, lotion, and hairspray, and take it off before you shower, swim, work out, or sleep. Chlorine, salt water, and everyday chemicals can dull gold and loosen settings over time.

Store it separately. Keep each piece in its own pouch or a lined jewelry box so stones and metal don't scratch against each other.

Clean it gently. Warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush (an old toothbrush works fine) is all you need. Rinse well and dry with a soft cloth.
